MOON

Investing practice that scores your judgement, not your luck

Moon Trading is a simulated investing app. You start with a notional ten thousand pounds, and every order is scored before it fills on how well it fits the portfolio you already hold.

A considered trade

Sized so one bad quarter cannot sink you, and it adds a sector you are not already leaning on.

Drag to see how position size alone moves the score. The app weighs six other factors alongside it.

What the score is made of

Seven weighted factors, each measured against the portfolio you hold at the moment you place the order. The app shows you every one, with the number behind it and the reasoning in plain English.

FactorWeightWhat it measures
Position size0.22Your holding after the trade, against a 15% cap for a single company
Sector spread0.18How much of the portfolio would sit in one sector
Diversification0.18How closely this moves with what you already own
Income quality0.15Dividend yield, gated by whether earnings actually cover it
Volatility0.12How hard the price swings, and how far it follows the market
Liquidity0.08What it would cost you to sell in a hurry
Patience0.07How long you held, scored when you sell

Some trades are capped regardless of everything else. Put more than half the portfolio into one company and no combination of good factors will lift the score above 34, because nothing offsets single-company risk at that size.

Ranked on judgement, not returns

The leaderboard sorts on points earned from trade quality. It shows profit and loss, but it does not rank on it. Ranking on returns rewards whoever took the biggest undiversified bet that month, which is the behaviour the app exists to discourage.

Built for people learning

No real money

Balances, positions and results are simulated. There is no brokerage account, no order routing and no payment details.

End-of-day prices

Orders fill at the next close rather than instantly, which removes the incentive to trade on minute-by-minute noise.

Reasoning, not verdicts

Every factor explains itself. The aim is that you stop needing the score, not that you chase it.
