Money and safety

Is any of this real money?

No. Every balance, position, price and result in Moon Trading is simulated. There is no brokerage account, no order routing, no way to deposit or withdraw, and we never ask for payment details.

Are the prices real?

No. Moon Trading lists real companies, but the prices are simulated rather than real market data. They are generated to behave realistically, so volatile companies move more than stable ones and companies in the same sector tend to move together, but they are not the prices those shares actually traded at. Never use them to judge a real investment.

Is Moon Trading financial advice?

No. The scores explain how a trade fits the portfolio you already hold, using published, mechanical criteria. They are educational, not a recommendation about any specific investment for you. Moon Technologies is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Your account

How do I delete my account?

Open the Account tab and select Delete account. This permanently removes your account, portfolio, trade history and leaderboard entry. It happens immediately, it cannot be undone, and you do not need to contact us.

I have forgotten my password

Select Sign in, then Forgotten password, and we will email a reset link to the address on the account. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder.

Can I change my username?

Not yet. Usernames are unique and appear on the leaderboard. If you need one changed, email us.

How scoring works

Why did my trade score badly when the price went up?

Because the score is not about the outcome. It measures how well the trade fits the portfolio at the moment you place it: position size, sector spread, correlation with what you own, income quality, volatility, liquidity and holding period. A trade can score poorly and still make money. That is the point. Judging decisions by their results teaches you to repeat lucky mistakes.

Why is my score capped?

Some trades carry risk that no other quality offsets. Putting more than half your portfolio into one company caps the score at 34. Buying a dividend the company's earnings do not cover caps it at 44. The app tells you which cap applied and why.

Why does a high dividend yield sometimes score badly?

A high yield often means the share price has fallen, not that the company is generous. We weigh yield against dividend cover, which is earnings divided by dividends paid. A yield above 7% with cover under 1.2 times usually comes before a cut, so it is penalised rather than rewarded.

Why is the leaderboard not ranked on profit?

Because ranking on profit rewards whoever took the biggest undiversified bet. Over a few months the top of that leaderboard is luck, and copying it is how people lose money. Points come from trade quality instead.

Prices and trading

Why do orders not fill instantly?

Orders fill at the next simulated close rather than at the price on screen. This is deliberate. Minute-by-minute prices encourage reacting to noise, and the app is built to teach the opposite.

My order was rejected

Orders are rejected when you do not have the cash to cover a purchase, or do not hold enough shares to cover a sale. The order ticket shows both limits before you submit.
